Wingspan
Description
Enter the vibrant world of ornithology and create the most prosperous bird sanctuary! Wingspan, winner of the prestigious Kennerspiel des Jahres award, invites you on a serene but strategic collecting journey. It is a building engine Eurogame that focuses on attracting birds to your different habitats: the forest, the meadow and the wetland. The genius of Wingspan lies in how each bird you play is not just a victory point, but a permanent action that improves your engine. By activating one of your habitat rows, you trigger the abilities of all the birds in it, creating an increasingly powerful domino effect. This allows you to get more food, lay more eggs, or draw more cards. The satisfaction of seeing how your ecosystem feeds itself is immense. Plus, their production is top-notch, with over 170 unique bird cards, gorgeous illustrations, and the now-iconic food dice in the dispenser tower. It's a game that perfectly balances medium-term strategy with visual beauty and thematic tranquility. If you're looking for a Eurogame that's easy to learn, beautifully presented, and offers subtle but consistent tactical depth, Wingspan is the ideal choice. It attracts nature lovers and strategists alike to the table. Optimize your habitats and claim victory!

How to play
Players start with an initial set of bird and food cards. On your turn, you choose from 4 possible actions: 1. Play a bird (paying its cost for food and sometimes eggs) and placing it in a habitat. 2. Earn food (activating the forest row). 3. Lay eggs (activating the meadow row). 4. Draw bird cards (activating the wetland row). When you activate a row (options 2, 3 or 4), you resolve the basic action and then activate, from right to left, the when-activated abilities of all the birds in that row, allowing you to optimize your resource or point acquisition. The rounds end with the scoring of common objectives. The game ends after 4 rounds, scoring birds, eggs, cards tucked under birds, card bonuses, and common/secret objectives.
Why you might like it
If you're drawn to visually polished games with accessible rules and a constant sense of personal progress, Wingspan offers a relaxed but strategically satisfying experience.
What to keep in mind
Interaction between players is limited and chance in card draw or food dice can influence the game, which may not appeal to those seeking greater control or confrontation.
